Yoga Therapy

We are not human being having a spiritual experience, we are spirit having a human experience

Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups. Its objective is to provide holistic support to help with many life-changing events, pain management, injuries, trauma, disease and more.  Yoga therapy as defined by the International Association for Yoga Therapists: "Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga. (www.iayt.org)

After an in-depth assessment, in partnership with you, we will create manageable goals. I will develop and teach you, personal practices that you can do on your own time. I will suggest yoga practices that may include active listening, journaling, meditation, breathing, postures, and lifestyle skills based on how they will specifically benefit you, personally.

Yoga Therapists are required to do a minimum of 1000+ hours (min. 2 years) in a professional program. This thorough training provides the therapist with the skills necessary to work efficiently and compassionately with a wide range of life challenges.

Yoga Therapy is a healing art that integrates the teachings and practices of traditional yoga concepts and techniques with a western medical expertise in a holistic, therapeutic context with the aim of increasing self-awareness and engaging the individual to attain desired goals relevant to ones health and well-being. Goals of yoga therapy include eliminating, reducing or managing symptoms that cause suffering, improving function, preventing the occurrence or re-occurrence of underlying causes of illness and moving towards improved health and well-being.

A standard one-on-one yoga therapy session may include

  • Discuss medical history and evaluation of physical, mental, energetic, and spiritual bodies.  Assessing breathing, posture, gait, and mobility issues.

  • Creating objectives that best support the healing process and the goals of the client.

  • Choosing and practicing specific physical poses and other practices and adapting them to meet the client’s needs.

  • Defining a stimulant program for home practice.

As a qualified Yoga Therapist, Jo-Ann will work one-on-one with you to create a personalized program that can address your unique needs—physical, emotional or spiritual —so as to alleviate suffering in a multi-dimensional, non-invasive, and progressive manner. It is important to consider that yoga therapy is not an alternative to traditional treatments, but rather another tool to benefit patients’ overall health.

  • Counseling

2nd Appointment

We will go over the recommendations and healing programs together in detail and practice together what has been recommended.

Follow-up Appointments

It is important that the techniques and different aspects of your program are performed properly and consistently to ensure results. Any questions or clarifications can be addressed during follow-up appointments, and Jo-Ann will make recommendations for further development of your program as you advance. Having support is medically proven to be one of the most important elements of Yoga Therapy. Scheduled follow-up appointments may make all the difference to ensure you get the results you are aiming for. They will also enhance your ability to maintain a regular practice of your program
